SoTalk is an assistive communication app designed to help people who are unable to speak and who also have restricted hand and arm movement. Developed by a carer for her mother, SoTalk Chinese Cantonese is configured to enable communication between an English speaker and Chinese user.
Preloaded with essential communication topics and vocabulary:
• Pre-set categories of key communication needs in audio, written and pictorial form
• Topics include: personal care, clothing, food, drink, I want to clarify (questions), I don’t feel well, chit-chat (everyday conversational questions), going out, activities at home, doctors, medication, directions, colours, emotions
2 steps to communicate:
• Tap to select a conversation topic – to reveal related vocabulary
• Tap to select vocabulary or phrase option
Customisable:
• Pre-set conversation topics can be expanded by carers
• Template can be populated with more Conversation Topics and Vocabulary personalised for the user – add more pictures and record own audio
• Simplify the conversation topics or vocabulary when needed
Most suited to people diagnosed with neuro degenerative disorders:
• Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Multiple System Atrophy, Superficial Siderosis, Motor Neurone Disease
• Stroke patients
• Frail aged
